about

When I put the music to this poem of Sarah Heagy’s I was listening to a lot of Junior Watson.
I think some of that style crept into the song.

lyrics

A magnificent tree, tall and tangled
Sits above your, glistening hair
And I feel you, across the grinning grass
But all I hear, all I hear is you
Sing to me in currents
Under the captured sun
They might beat your voice down
With sticks and thumps
But all I hear, all I hear is you
How cruel is this, that these wild eyes
Still look for you in me, every time
Under the soft skies, and hard stars
But all I see. all I see is you

about

Erick Hovey and Friends Fort Dodge, Iowa

Erick Hovey's music is peppered with seasonings of blues, roots rock, jazz, funk, old power trio rock, reggae, and newer folk fusion styles. His lyrical content has not only good humored nods towards classic blues and rock clichés’, but spans the afterlife, and existentialism as well. Sometimes it’s spooky, sometimes it’s raw, spiritual, and sensual. Think Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale, and Peter Green. ... more
