Super Collider AK-47

from Just Sayin' Volume Two by The Middle Americans

/

about

Several of Joe’s personalities voiced their opinions simultaneously on this one.
This on a canvas painted by guitarist Horst Zaspel from Germany. When Horst visits the US we always make it a point to get together and jam and he showed me his latest idea on one of those occasions. Back home, he recorded it and sent me what became the instrumental part of this piece. I love the old-school metronome with the bell.

lyrics

Super Collider AK-47
The super collider in Switzerland and France
Isn’t just a scientific tool
Amber waves of grain
To determine the origins of the universe
Purple mountains majesty
It’s a new means of human sensory perception
Human sensory perception
Since we became aware of the limitations
Established by Hume, Locke and Kant
Giant purple pink white blue clouds
Backlit by a golden dying sun
Like nothing we can comprehend over only a handful of lifetimes
Millions of years
Counted in years and decades more accurately than in centuries
Humans have radically altered our own ability to perceive the cosmos
And life itself, the universe we live in
How do those ducks know how to fly south
Reveals new secrets everyday
Hey man how do those ducks know how to fly south
The politics of everyday life, based on screaming ignoaramuses
When the limitations of the human mind
So the politics of everyday life, based on screaming ignoramuses demanding
the phallic Shaped bullet coming killings are the most annoying ninety second sentences
addicting the second amendment of the constitution of the united states of America
Is a knowable absurdity
Demanding, the phallic shaped bullet coming
Based on a document that was written over two hundred years ago
Seems laughable, except that laughing at it
Could get you killed
Hunts for Auto-Motor-und-Sport quickly at the newsstand
On a cold dark December morning
Walking along past snow
Then grabs a kicker sits down on the train
Shoveled along the sidewalk
Gets off and changes lines when, it crosses under the river
The smell of last night parties
And he leaves Sachsenhausen for another day out in the real world
Live in a city
But at night when he returns
Kiezkickers, kiezkickers Kiezhelden
To his kitschy world full of ebbelwoi
Wo est keine mehr wunder gibt
They understand, and he’s thinking
Still walk down to the cathedral and stare out at the lanes of ship traffic
I mean it’s 1985 man
No, no! it’s 4:33 AM
The world is out there as much as it is in here
What her brother did to your father, or vice versa
Let it go man, genau
Dank, anderen Kneipen die Alternativen
Andere Kneipen, die Alternativen
We stop for a coffee
Genau
In a coffeed out flop house
Genau
And after knowing you for three days
I ask you your name
Seven am on a cold dark December morning
Walking along past snow shoveled along the sidewalk
I am who I am to myself but I am not that same I to my family and friends
The smell of coffee brewing, the smell of life in the city
Unless I confront the reality of who I am compared to the I of who I am only to myself
Kiezkickers, Kiezhelden
I cannot expect radical change to improve who I am
(Wir erwarten ein wunder wo es keinen wundern mehr gibt)
To make my idealized self also my true self

about

Erick Hovey and Friends Fort Dodge, Iowa

Erick Hovey's music is peppered with seasonings of blues, roots rock, jazz, funk, old power trio rock, reggae, and newer folk fusion styles. His lyrical content has not only good humored nods towards classic blues and rock clichés’, but spans the afterlife, and existentialism as well. Sometimes it’s spooky, sometimes it’s raw, spiritual, and sensual. Think Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale, and Peter Green. ... more
