Seize the Day

from Scribes by Jessica Webb and Erick Hovey

/

about

I showed Jessica Webb my new song as we were sitting around the campfire one night. Four years later after I had recorded it, I showed her again. She remembered every nuance of the vocal and melody and I tracked her on the spot.

lyrics

You killed us dead, could have been so good together
And all I can say is why didn’t we seize the day
First it was all or nothing, then you disappeared or something
Now I’m here in hell thinking, it could have been something
Yeah, yeah
It could have been something
Say you’ll call, never do, sitting here feeling like a fool
And you don’t care and I don’t care anymore
Guess were going to be nothing now, could have been something
Really could have, something, something, something, could have been something
Sometimes it’s OK, miss the boat you’ll have to stay
Sometimes it’s just fate, just in time to be too late
And wasted time, wasted souls
I know you and you know too; you were playing me and I was playing you
Yeah wasted time, wasted souls
All I can say is why didn’t you seize the day

Guess we could have been something, something, hey yeah, something yeah
Guess we’re gonna be, guess we’re gonna be, guess we’re gonna be
Nothing, nothing, nothing now
Could have been something
You killed us dead, could have been so good together
Seize the day
Good together, good together
All I can say is why didn’t we seize the day
Why didn’t we seize the day

about

Erick Hovey and Friends Fort Dodge, Iowa

Erick Hovey's music is peppered with seasonings of blues, roots rock, jazz, funk, old power trio rock, reggae, and newer folk fusion styles. His lyrical content has not only good humored nods towards classic blues and rock clichés’, but spans the afterlife, and existentialism as well. Sometimes it’s spooky, sometimes it’s raw, spiritual, and sensual. Think Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale, and Peter Green. ... more
