Rubber on the Road

from Scribes by Jessica Webb and Erick Hovey

/

about

Fresh off a road trip, Jessica Webb declared “There’s something about the rubber on the road”.
So, we sat down with an acoustic and a couple of mics and rolled tape. We added Bill Hoft’s string bass and some piano fills from Dave Hearn and we were there. I love the slippery feel of this song.

lyrics

Something about the rubber on the road, it reminds me that I’ve got a soul
My heartbeat accelerates as I get to a state
There’re limits, there’s exits
Detours and orange, where should I go
Something about the rubber on the road
Something about the rubber on the road
I’m addicted, to the road
You give me a long leash, where should I go
Don’t wrap it up around your neck
We’ve got places to go, where should we go
There’s something about the rubber and the road

Something about the rubber
Something about the rubber

We’ve got to make it
We got time to take it slow
Slow ride, slow ride
Something about the rubber and the road
Something about the rubber
And the road
There’s a high, high ride with a way
A good thing you should say
Where should we go
There’s something about the rubber on the road
Detours and exits and orange

Something about the rubber on the road
Something about the rubber
Something about the rubber

The roads they will be taken
By you
Miles you drive, people that you meet
Where should we go
Strangers are the, the world
Something about the rubber on the road
GPS is so bionic, an atlas keeps me wondering where should I go

Something about the rubber on the road
Something about the rubber, and the road

about

Erick Hovey and Friends Fort Dodge, Iowa

Erick Hovey's music is peppered with seasonings of blues, roots rock, jazz, funk, old power trio rock, reggae, and newer folk fusion styles. His lyrical content has not only good humored nods towards classic blues and rock clichés’, but spans the afterlife, and existentialism as well. Sometimes it’s spooky, sometimes it’s raw, spiritual, and sensual. Think Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale, and Peter Green. ... more
