Nineteen Ninety-Two

from The Player and the Poet by Erick Hovey and Sarah Heagy

/

about

Sarah told me her poem was about her as a little girl in Washburn Heights, Oregon, lying in the grass at a Bluegrass festival looking at the sky in 1992. As I put it to music it went from head-banging to swing and through different time signatures but finally landed on the dark thing you hear now.
Erick Hovey

Here is Sarah’s poem:
Amid flowing hills
We ran about as dew
In gleeful morning’s touch
We grew as wildflowers do
Above torpid’s touch

lyrics

Amid flowing hills
We ran about as dew
Above torpid’s touch
Above torpid’s touch
Nineteen Ninety-Two
In gleeful morning’s touch
We grew as wildflowers do
Above torpid’s touch
Above torpid’s touch
Nineteen Ninety-Two

about

Erick Hovey and Friends Fort Dodge, Iowa

Erick Hovey's music is peppered with seasonings of blues, roots rock, jazz, funk, old power trio rock, reggae, and newer folk fusion styles. His lyrical content has not only good humored nods towards classic blues and rock clichés’, but spans the afterlife, and existentialism as well. Sometimes it’s spooky, sometimes it’s raw, spiritual, and sensual. Think Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale, and Peter Green. ... more
