Don Sorensen - Blues Abduction

from Scribes by Jessica Webb and Erick Hovey

/

about

Don Sorensen wrote this song while I was playing with him and Heather Kelly in a trio. It was fun to play live and we knew we had to record it. We did and here it is. You will hear Knopfler-like guitar sounds and Don’s daughter Jessica doing some cool backing vocals.

lyrics

It started out, as a light in the distance
Just let it happen, drop my resistance
I fell to my knees, please have mercy, and closed my eyes, but I could see
I pray to God, was he listening, but the lights still shine, will he set me free
It’s not from the stars it’s an ugly seduction
It’s not from mars it’s my blues abduction

Is it fact or fiction, I need to know
This strange communion, of sound and soul
The clock is broken, and I remember, and time is missing, I shake and I shiver
Is this the devil, the fallen angel, or is it a blessing, then I need delivered
It’s not from the stars it’s an ugly seduction
It’s not from mars it’s my blues abduction

It’s a close encounter, with a beating heart, just one more twist, and it will tear apart
Somewhere in the shadows, feel the rhythm, does true love wait, I feel the pull
Should I fight to find it, feel the heartbreak, or accept this fate, see this fool
See this fool hanging on to destruction, brand new lesson, it’s my blues abduction
It’s my blues abduction
It’s my blues abduction

about

Erick Hovey and Friends Fort Dodge, Iowa

Erick Hovey's music is peppered with seasonings of blues, roots rock, jazz, funk, old power trio rock, reggae, and newer folk fusion styles. His lyrical content has not only good humored nods towards classic blues and rock clichés’, but spans the afterlife, and existentialism as well. Sometimes it’s spooky, sometimes it’s raw, spiritual, and sensual. Think Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale, and Peter Green. ... more
