Birthday Suits

from Scribes by Jessica Webb and Erick Hovey

about

My Friend Ardie Dean (Music Maker Foundation) proposed an Iowa project and requested original material from Iowa artists about Iowa. I had not written many waltzes and decided to do so with attention getting lyrics about nudity and a popular Iowa subject, the weather. Jessica Webb was happy to interpret vocally.

lyrics

If your gonna spend the winters
Between the two rivers
Then you got to put your cloths on
When the body shakes and shivers
And if your gonna spend the summer
On the prairie green and wide
Better take off all your clothing, and push old winter aside

Birthday suits, birthday suits, we all have one to wear
You’re never out of fashion when you’re bare

In the springtime when your drivin
On I thirty five
And the land it wakes up talkin
Sayin hey Im alive
You stop to pick some flowers, you stop to get some love
You can take your clothes off, If its 63 above

Birthday suits, birthday suits, we all have one to wear
You’re never out of fashion when you’re bare

In the autumn when its chilly
And your feelin kind of silly
You might put on some clothing
At night
But for Iowa Indian summers
Strip down sisters and brothers
Catch some sun today and the moonbeams tonight

Birthday suits, birthday suits, we all have one to wear
You’re never out of fashion when you’re bare

about

Erick Hovey and Friends Fort Dodge, Iowa

Erick Hovey's music is peppered with seasonings of blues, roots rock, jazz, funk, old power trio rock, reggae, and newer folk fusion styles. His lyrical content has not only good humored nods towards classic blues and rock clichés’, but spans the afterlife, and existentialism as well. Sometimes it’s spooky, sometimes it’s raw, spiritual, and sensual. Think Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale, and Peter Green. ... more
